ACCOUNTABLE AND ACCESSIBLE GOVERNMENT

By Karyl Matsumoto

Candidate for Councilmember; City of South San Francisco

This information is provided by the candidate
These are two fundamentals that should be practiced by every elected officials.
I have advocated polices and programs designed to make city government more accessible. As mayor, I took community meetings to the neighborhoods. We gave State of the City presentations that let residents know where we were and where we were going. Every department was represented and prepared not only to answer questions but to discuss individual problems. We hold open study sessions so residents share the same information that is presented to City Council before it comes before us for a vote. In addition to speaking at council meetings, this process allows individuals to call or write us to beforehand to ensure their concerns are addressed. We produce a quarterly newsletter and have a city website. We have an extremely responsive staff and thus one of the best customer service policies on the Peninsula. I like most of the City Council are accessible by phone, e-mail, written correspondence, and one-on-one meetings. Your ideas and issues are important to me.
