Meeting fiscal needs of our schools to include passage of Measure H.By Marie E. BrizuelaCandidate for Board Member; Jefferson Elementary School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Support an oversight committee to monitor Bond Measure H, a facilities improvement plan to renovate and modernize our 16 schools.I will continue to review the budget to find all the monies to improve our facilities. Measure H, our Bond on the ballot, is needed to provide elementary school students with warm, safe and dry classrooms and facilities conducive to learning. Our school facilities have continuously been maintained through the years, but in 35 to 50 years of use, they are worn out. After a certain number of years, our own homes need bathroom repair, upgrading of floors, electrical wiring and plumbing renovation, doors and windows need replacement due to wear and tear. The same applies to our school facilities which have served thousands of children year after year. Funding is critical in all school settings. Funds are not equally disbursed from the State and many State and Federal mandated programs infringe on our already tight budget. Districts need to monitor their budgets and not spend foolishly. We must budget wisely and seek additional funding or grants whenever possible. At this time, school bonds are necessary to meet the needs for upgrading our school faciilities. This is an investment in our future. Dollars generated from the Bond Measure will allow our district to wire the classrooms and provide adequate instruction using state of the art technology, preparing our students to be productive citizens in the 21st century.
