I'm running for office again because I continue to care very much for my community, and want to help keep it the wonderful place that it is. We're living in a dynamic place that is very prosperous but that is suffering from some of the problems of prosperity. We need to keep all the various forces and pressures in balance to protect our quality of life while continuing to foster a climate of innovation and entrepreneurship that is the envy of the rest of the world.

I'm convinced that the basic strength of our region (both socially and economically) derives from the fact that so many of the most talented people in the world have to come live here. I've lived in Santa Clara Valley for 21 years, and I've seen the Silicon Valley economy re-invent itself at least five times in that period. From the early days of a semiconductor based economy to the recent dot-boom/dot-bust, we always seem to be on the leading edge of what is new. I'm certain the reason for this is that for more than a century our community has been a place where talent can flourish, and thus has attracted the best and brightest to come here and pursue their dreams.

Those talented people can be a healthy challenge and stimulus for local government. They have definite expectations for the levels of service they want from their local institutions, and have the intelligence and sophistication needed to hold Sunnyvale's metaphorical feet to the fire. I enjoy the interactions I have with our citizens, and have great faith in their good sense and good judgment.

My long term vision of Santa Clara Valley involves keeping it a healthy place to live and an exciting place to work. Our neighborhoods need to become quieter, safer, more comfortable, and more friendly. Our business climate needs to continue to set the pace and lead the world into the future. I've worked towards those goals for the past four years, and I will continue to pursue them if I am re-elected.
