PRESERVING SANTA BARBARA'S CHARACTERBy Roger L. HortonCandidate for Member of City Council; City of Santa Barbara | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
We must remain committed to preserving Santa Barbara quality of life for the people who live and work here.As a 50 year resident of Santa Barbara, I am committed to preserving the cultural & environmental health of our city. That is why I helped found the Pearl Chase Society and have been active with the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation. The beautiful spanish style of our city is what makes it so precious and unique. From the Old Mission to the County Courthouse, it is the dominant impression made on our residents and visitors. I am committed to preserving our unique quality of life. I will oppose any attempts to renew offshore oil-drilling along our precious coastline. As President of the Downtown Organization, I worked to get the business community to support Measure B, which will help us clean up our creeks. As a member of the City Transportation Committee, I have led efforts to acquire more electric shuttles and expand service to the Eastside of town. As a citizen of Santa Barbara, my family's home is solar powered and we also compost. As a member of the council, I will continue to do more to preserve Santa Barbara's cultural beauty and environment for the people who live and work here. |
