The Biggest Problem and My Number One Priority

The biggest Problem our schools faced in the past was "attitude". My number one priority is to improve instruction in our schools
Education wasn't a priority. Accountability wasn't a factor. Schools weren't there for children. They were there to serve the adults in charge. School Boards and administrations cared more about themselves than the children. School Boards either didn't keep track of where the Districts's resources were being spent or they cooperated in misusing those resources. Either way, the ultimate result was bankruptcy - financial, academic, and moral. Now, in the last eight years, we've repaid the State $12 million on facilities. That's money that could have been spent to support instruction, pay teachers, and provide greater opportunities for children. Now, we have to make sure we don't fall back into the destructive behavior. We have to keep our focus on the mission of the district, quality education for all our children. I will accomplish that by making parents and teachers partners and watchdogs of the District. With the District resources focused on the classrooms and instruction we can work together to solve any problem.

My Number one priority is to improve instruction in our schools. In order to accomplish that, we'll need to attract and retain qualified teachers. We'll need to support our teachers with instructional materials, school discipline, safe and clean facilities, reasonable class sizes, and a site and District administration that focus its resources on providing a quality education for all our children. I believe that by working together as a Board that we can help the new superintendent achieve these goals. I also believe that we'll have to include parents in this equation. The schools can and must do their job and do it well, but without parental involvement and support there is a limit to what we can accomplish. The District needs to enlist the support of parents and provide them with whatever training and support they need to help their children.
