I believe that public education is the cornerstone of our democracy. A high quality public school system provides citizens capable of self-government, equal opportunity for all, and a unifying set of ideals and principles.

I am proud of my service to the community as a board member of the Las Virgenes Unified School District. During my service on the board we have:

  • Achieved an outstanding score at every school on the new state academic accountability system.

  • Passed a 93 million dollar facilities bond and completed modernization plans on every campus

  • Began building new facilities to relieve overcrowding on our campuses

  • Provided a safe and secure learning environment for our children, following plans developed by each school

  • Implemented technology plans on each campus, providing equipment, teacher training, and networking capabilities

  • Developed a powerful bipartisan network to effectively advocate for our children

  • Worked with community and business groups to increase resources and opportunities for all students

  • Reduced class size to 20 students in 9th grade English and Algebra classes

  • Encouraged a greater number of students to take honors and advanced placement classes

  • Listened to your concerns and followed through on them.

To maintain LVUSD'S reputation for excellence, there is still much to be done. My goals include:

  • Implement new instructional strategies to help all students reach the high standards we have set for them.

  • Complete the facilities plan safely and quickly with sensitivity to neighborhood concerns.

  • Continue to develop business and community partnerships to enhance learning opportunities for all students

  • Provide smaller classes for additional grade levels

  • Integrate technology with the curriculum at every grade level to prepare students for the demands of the 21st century

  • Expand the fine, applied and performing arts curriculum

  • Create optional extended day offerings in middle and high schools to accommodate student demand for electives

  • Expand programs to assist students who are at risk
