Though I was born in Florida and spent my earliest years on the Island of Guam, I completed my public education in Whittier, California. Following high school, I attended the United States Naval Academy for two years before an eye injury preceded my discharge from the US Navy. I then spent an additional six years in the Ready Reserve. I completed my B.A. in Social Science at Brigham Young University in 1969. Thereafter I earned an M.A. in School Administration from CSU Fresno (1972) and an Ed.D. in Education (Curriculum & Instruction) from Brigham Young University in 1984.

After stints in the finance industry (Dial Finance) and as a supervisor for Pacific Telephone's accounting division, I went to work as a teacher. For the last 32 years I have been in education, beginning as a classroom aide and then spending time as a teacher (elementary, Jr. High and High School), a principal (3 times) and a superintendent (twice).

Over the years I have used my knowledge and experience to aid others, making presentations at the school, district, community, state and national levels to such organizations as the Association of California School Administrators, the California School Boards Association, the National Council of the Teachers of Mathematics and California Council for the Gifted.

In my current assignment I teach World History to 7th grade students in Lancaster, California, and I also serve as the district athletic director and as the CTA representative for my school.

My 'hobbies' include reading, traveling, tennis and singing, where I have had the good fortune to perform with the Southern California Mormon Choir in such places as the Hollywood Bowl, the Crystal Cathedral and the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. My wife, Lynn Davis Kittinger, is a second grade teacher. We have a blended family that includes ten children and ten grandchildren. I am active in my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) where I have been a Scout Master, three times a member of a Bishopric and in which I now serve on the High Council for the Lancaster Stake.

I am 54 years old and in very good health. In addition to this venture into the world of politics, I've also begun a business this year. You can check it out at http://www.djsplaceonline.com. I have no political asperations and do not invision this position as a stepping stone to any other political position.
