Letter to the Editor:

After taking two weeks to get access to PVPUSD district and board policies I am happy to announce that I have made the policies available at http://www.bartz.com/pvpusd/policy . It took two weeks just to get a password!

I find it unpleasant to have to work so hard to get access to public data. One of my campaign promises is to make all non-confidential and non-privileged information about our schools and this district available online. I pledge to make the data available as fully searchable text documents. I will not use PDF formats as these types of documents are very hard to handle and difficult, if not impossible, to do effective search and retrieval.

Again, I refer to the Brown Act which states, "The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know."

August 23, 2001 - Brown Act Guides Campaign

In the upcoming November 6th election you can cast your vote to not let administrative policies keep our kids and families from being educated together and having non-red-tape access to all resources of the PVPUSD.

The laws simply state that our kids have a right to most appropriate education and environment to fit their individual needs. My campaign for PVPUSD School board is based on this self-evident truth and on the Brown Act.

Brown Act: § 54950 Declaration of Legislative Purpose

In enacting this chapter, the Legislature finds and declares that the public commissions, boards and councils and the other public agencies in this State exist to aid in the conduct of the people's business.

The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created. Leg. H. Added Stats 1953 ch 1588 § 1.

Have you ever gone into a restaurant and moved the chairs and tables to fit your party's needs? How do you feel about restaurants that say no? PVPUSD has the resources to accommodate our children's time/space needs. Real-time creative use of PVPUSD resources is better for our kids and the resources remain for the next set of kids to be educated to their needs.

We need to let our school district know that they are there to service the needs of our children. The Brown Act is a clear indicator that our district belongs to our kids not to its administrators.

My Name is Brad Bartz and I am running for School Board. Are you ready to make essential changes for all our children? Visit http://www.bartz.com for more information.
