DR. JOHN EASTMAN for U.S. Senate

INTRODUCTION John Eastman's entry into politics with the Natural Law Party has strong roots in his early life. He developed a deep love of nature and a strong sense of interconnectedness from growing up in the Vale, an intentional community nestled in a large natural area bordering Yellow Springs. John's childhood and teen years were nurtured in the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) where social responsibility was central to one's spiritual life.

After graduating from Antioch College and obtaining a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington, John Eastman has spent the past 23 years teaching, researching and consulting with a commitment to minimize the human impact on the environment. During these years, he has remained active in the Quaker Meeting, including seven years as Clerk honing his skills in building consensus. John's commitment to political transformation arose and deepened during his eight years as a leader with Landmark Education Corporation.

This solid, practical engineering experience combined with skills in consensus building, and his commitment to political transformation are ideal for bringing innovative, holistic solutions to our national political life, creating a world that works for everyone.

DETAILS John A. Eastman is the Natural Law Party candidate for U.S. Senate. In 1998 he ran for Lieutenant Governor. In 1996 he was the Party's candidate for Ohio State Senate.

John has been an environmental engineer at LJB, Inc. Engineers and Architects in Dayton, Ohio since 1987, where he is currently Chief Environmental Engineer. He was an environmental engineer with Beery & Associates in Mason, Michigan the prior three years. From 1977 to 1984 he was on the environmental engineering faculty at Michigan State University.

John earned his B.S. in Engineering Science from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1970, his M.S. in Environmental Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1972 and his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from The University of Washington in Seattle in 1977.

John was an Eagle Scout, a Danforth Fellow and a National Science Foundation Fellow. He has served as Clerk of the Yellow Springs Friends Meeting (Quaker) for four years. He was also Clerk of the Red Cedar Friends Meeting in East Lansing, Michigan for three years. John's family has been Quaker for some nine generations, dating back to Captain Underhill in the late 1600's. John is 53, has four children and one grandchild. He lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he grew up and where his parents and many of his family live now. John also was a classmate of incumbent Republican Senator Mike DeWine at Yellow Springs High School.

For the past several years, John has been serving on the Environmental Committee of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. He served as Chair of the Greene Environment 2000 Committee, an organization sponsored by the Greene County Combined Health District that established environmental health goals for the next millennium.
