1. What role should Hamilton County Commissioners play in establishing a regional transportation system?
I am chairman of the OKI Eastern Corridor Task Force and a strong advocate for regional multi-modal transportation systems. The plan will eliminate 370,000 vehicle miles per day and reduce daily corridor hours of delay by 64%. I have promoted regional transportation plans that will provide more comprehensive reverse commute routes that match hard to place workers who live primarily near the urban core with the abundance of multi-level jobs found primarily in the suburbs.
2. How would a county comprehensive long-range plan benefit county citizens?
Hamilton County continues to lose retail establishments, industry and residents to neighboring counties at an alarming rate, To maintain a sufficient tax base it is essential that residents, community and business lenders agree upon a comprehensive long-term regional plan of sustainable economic development sensibly balanced between growth and land preservation. We must also simultaneously redevelop the, urban core and first inner-ring suburbs to prevent them from becoming a "hole in the doughnut" of economic prosperity.
3. How would you expand the role/funding of the Tax Levy review Committee in include more careful monitoring of levy funds?
The Board established the TLRC four years ago as a review panel for all special levy funding requests. It reviews the books, of the previous levy term to determine if funds were spent within the objective, of each levy. The TLRC is directly responsible for successfully implementing an independent annual performance audit for each levy. Expanding the role of theTLRC would overburden its volunteer members and duplicate existing and adequate monitoring of funds.
