SENATOR FEINSTEIN IS WORKING TO BRING BACK EXCELLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS WITH COMMON-SENSE SOLUTIONS
While there are many excellent public schools, by and large public schools are failing. The key to successful education reform is accountability and standards. "If we do not demand excellence, we will not get it. And we need to demand it from our students, teachers and administrator," says Senator Dianne Feinstein.

School children deserve to learn in modern, updated schools. School and class sizes must be smaller. That is why Senator Feinstein introduced a bill that would help finance school construction, as well as bring our dilapidated and overcrowded schools up to standards that ensure a higher quality environment in which our children can learn. As a co-sponsor of the Gun-Free Schools Act, Senator Feinstein is also committed to making sure that schools provide a safe environment in which children can learn.

Social promotion has produced a generation of young people that cannot read, write, or count the change in their pockets. As a strong supporter of the Student Achievement Act of 1999, Senator Feinstein believes more must be done to finally end social promotion, without abandoing those children who may be having a tough time in school. Therefore, she also strongly support providing additional funding for extra remedial education.

In several several discussions with leaders in Silicon Valley, Senator Feinstein has been told that they are forced to look overseas for employees who have the skills they need for the high-tech workforce. This is a disgrace for America. The public education system has the potential to be the best in the world, but more must be done. Senator Feinstein will continue her work in the Senate to bring back excellence in our schools with common-sense soluntions.
