Water System Privatization

By Sukh S. Chahal

Candidate for City Council; City of Stockton; District 4

This information is provided by the candidate
For the sake of health and safety of the people and future generations to come, I oppose the privatization of city's water system.
Stockton city staff is doing a good job by providing water of good quality at a reasonable cost. My experience shows that private companies provide water quality tests to show that it meets water standards set by the government. This does not mean that quality of water is good. It only means that test meats the standards on paper but not in real sense. It depends on who does the testing.

You can not play test game where the health of the people is at risk. As I said at the City Council meeting "you are not deciding the savings for the city or profit for the private company. You are deciding the health of the people and the life of the future generations."

The water diseases are such that in many cases it takes few years before these can be detected and in some cases it may be too late for some one who looses a life. Therefore, for the safety and health of the people of stockton, I oppose the privatization of our city water.
