Introduction

By Clyde K "Pete" Shideler

Candidate for Mayor; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate
In November, the voters of Oceanside have a choice; "Business as usual" or a "New Path". Do we continue to give our money as incentives to big business? Or do we spend that money and focus on Affordable Accessible Housing; Energy Self-Sufficiency; Relieve Traffic Congestion; programs for seniors and children; protection of our Ecological, Historical, and Cultural heritage? Do we focus on the elimination of discrimination in our city?
Residents are PRIORITY ONE.

The Reverend Clyde Shideler is an official candidate for Mayor of Oceanside

Oceanside, CA -- August 13 -- Rev Clyde Shideler, an Oceanside resident for more 23 years, has filed the required papers to be a candidate for Mayor, which have been approved. He is now an official candidate for Mayor of Oceanside.

Rev Shideler, better known to many as "Pete", is a retired Minister and a long time member of the North Coast Interfaith Ministerial Association. After his retirement from the Air Force, he taugnt school and was a school administrator. He is Director of CE Disabled Services and has served with other disabled service organizations. His work in community affairs includes in part, service on the Oceanside Community Relations/Human Relations Commission , Disabled Advisory Committee, Senior Commission, ADA Ad Hoc Review Committee, and several years as the county representative on the NCTD TPAC committee and ADA Review Board. Rev Shideler for three years wrote a column on Disability information, issues and awareness for the Oceanside Blade Citizen and has written articles for several magazines.

As Mayor, he plans to focus on the following issues:

To return control and benefits of the city to the residents.

To see that affordable, accessible housing is built throughout the city, including senior housing, .

To plan and work for energy self-sufficiency and to relieve traffic congestion

To create a Children's Commission and make our city more "children friendly"..

To insure equal protection under the law, for ALL residents. Eliminate minority profiling.

To lead in the protection and preservation of our environmental, cultural and historical heritage..

To eliminate discrimination, including disabled discrimination, in our city.

Rev Shideler will accept no campaign funding from anyone and plans to use media events, "old style talking to the people", "word of mouth" and other methods to promote awareness of the issues. Those who wish to assist or do other promotional activities, may do so. He asks only that you follow the material in his "Issues Statement". Those interested may obtain the detailed "Issues Statement" from him to use for guidance and to promote awareness of the issues. He shall be seeking the support and endorsements by Civic, Fraternal and Community groups and organizations. He is available to speak at meetings of such groupsand organizations. Because of the restrictions imposed on him by the lack of accessibility and accomodation for his disabilities, he must do his campaign in a different manner than the usual candidates.

We must ALL become proactive and involved problem solvers. It is "OUR CITY" and "OUR HOME".

"Residents are PRIORITY 1"
THANK YOU

Sincerely, Rev. Clyde Shideler
