Political Philosophy for Dick Murphy

Why I'm Running For Mayor I want to provide San Diego leadership with 2020 vision. What do I mean by leadership with 2020 vision? I believe most politicians are nearsighted # they can only see as far as the next election. We need a mayor who has a vision for San Diego in the year 2020 with the competence and courage to implement that vision. . . . Why do I believe that I will have 2020 vision where others have failed? There are two reasons. First, I have done it before. As a San Diego City councilmember, I was part of the team that built Horton Plaza to start the renaissance of downtown. As chair of the Metropolitan Transit Development Board, I led the effort to build the East Line of the San Diego Trolley, which started our trolley system. And as chair of the City Park and Recreation Board and the Mission Trails Regional Park Task Force, I was a key player in purchasing major portions of Mission Trails Regional Park as a legacy for future generations. Second, I have the freedom to do it. Unlike most of the other candidates for mayor, I am not a career politician. I do not need to win any political office except Mayor of San Diego in the year 2000. I have a vision for San Diego in the year 2020. It is a vision of San Diego for San Diegans where we have: Freeways that are not parking lots. Neighborhoods we can be proud of. America's safest city. With your help we can make that vision come true. |
