RAMONA IS IN TROUBLEBy Chuck DeMundCandidate for Board Member; Ramona Community Planning Area | |

WHY ARE WE NOT IN CHARGE OF OUR DESTINY?As a former two-term chairperson of the Ramona Community Planning Group it deeply disturbs me to report that Ramona is in trouble! The County of San Diego has decided that our Community Plan should be drastically rewritten. They want to place very high density housing in the town center and to rezone outlying areas to eliminate residential lots smaller than 160 acres. So much for our rural town! Our current Planning Group has not given the County any meaningful guidance in the Plan update process. They have made a series of population projections, but have offered no concrete ideas for accommodating even modest population growth. So the County has done it for us! Without Planners who can rationally participate in the process we cannot hope to have our desires heard and acted on by the County. Past Ramona Planning Groups did have the respect of the Department of Planning & Land Use, Planning Commission and Supervisors. During my service we reached important land use compromises - among them the Ramona Airport runway expansion - because we presented coherent arguments for the community's wishes. I ask for your vote so that I may help make Ramona's voice rational and respected once more. Thank you |
