Candidate for
Director; San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District

This information is provided by the candidate

Since 1991, I have served on this District's Board of Directors and, prior to that, I was a fire commissioner in Tassajara for more than seven years. I spent nearly two years on the Contra Costa County Local Agency Formation Commission. I have been a volunteer firefighter/first responder for 20 years.

My education includes both master and doctoral degrees in public administration from USC. I work as an applications analyst in the government financials division of PeopleSoft. In addition, I teach courses on government management at two CSU campuses and USC. Currently, I serve on the faculty of the Special District Board Management Institute and have testified on special district government before four statewide commissions.

During my tenure on the board, this District has installed a computer aided dispatch system and implemented a pre-arrival instruction program. We initiated a firefighter-paramedic system and now have medics at every station. We successfully extended service to southern San Ramon and we will be opening a new station in the Dougherty Valley next year. In 1999, district property owners benefited from these achievements when their insurance rating improved to an ISO 2. I am proud of the role I played in each of these accomplishments.

As a board member, I have supported advanced training in firefighting, emergency medical, and hazardous materials situations, and we have worked to give our personnel the management skills they will need to assume leadership positions in the District of the future.

I believe that my education, depth of board experience, and firefighting background make me an ideal candidate to serve the citizens of the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. I would appreciate your vote to continue the high standards of quality and service we have established in this community.
