Skate Park in the Moraga Commons

By Lori Landis

Candidate for Member, Town Council; Town of Moraga

This information is provided by the candidate
Is the proposed skate park in the Moraga Commons a good idea? Is the Moraga Commons the right location for such a structure?
The Town should be committed to providing opportunities for our youth as well as all Moraga residents. I heartily support the concept of a skate park but am not convinced that the Moraga Commons is the place for the large cement structure.

While the law requires that notification be provided to residents within 300 feet of the structure, I believe that the park belongs to all Moragans and all Moragans should receive notification of this proposal. The structure will change the original designation of the Commons being a passive park and all Moragans should be made aware and encouraged to provide input.

Perhaps another idea would be to designate another area in Lamorinda for a park for a variety of activities just for kids. Designed by kids. The kids could go out and raise money for their park, matching funds could be offered by each town. This type of idea would give the kids a sense of ownership and responsibility to each other, their park and their respective towns in the construction and design of their own park project.
