THE CITY BUDGET: We must find a way to keep our emergency service units intact. The Police, Paramedics and Fire Department are the absolute core city services we all rely on and cannot do without. Saving them is our first priority. The City Bdget must be reviewed and re-worked to eliminate needless expense, identify unused resources, and see what reserves are available to cover short-term problems as we look for long-term solutions. We must learn to rely on our existing resources and make every nickel count. Once we can pay for what we *need*, then we think about funding the programs we *want* EDUCATION: The global economy is here, and our schools have to produce not only future citizens, but Americans comfortable with technology and able to compete with the best minds the rest of the world can offer. By creating a new partnership of business, labor, and concerned citizens and parents, we can make sure our schools graduate the people tomorrow's economy demands, people that can go to work tomorrow and make a difference. San Leandro can set an example by taking a new direction in community activity, involvement, and support for our schools. We all invest in our schools, let's work for a decent return on our money. BUSINESS: San Leandro is uniquely located to attract not just traditional industries, but the new, high-tech jobs as well. I'll work to attract both to San Leandro by reducing red-tape and the high taxes that stop us from bringing a variety of good places to work into our city. Our residents should be able to find the good jobs they want right here in San Leandro. Our older and under-used buildings should be inspected, upgraded and fitted out to attract these new business opportunities. |
