Recognition for the Mendez family for their struggle
to
achieve "Civil Rights" for all students that permitted
Hispanics and other students of color to attend "White Only"
schools in Orange County in 1946
® Responsible for providing an increased awareness to the
Orange County Board of Education as to the possible
malfeasance and misfeasance of public funds provided by
school districts in Orange County. Training was provided
for school administrators and board members of all school
districts in the county in order to teach them how to
prevent and to recognize such misuses in their districts.
® Responsible for establishing better lines of communication
between the OCDE and the public by providing community "Town
Hall' meetings, an internet web site, video information that
is provided to local cable companies for broadcasting and
the establishment of a "fire wall" on internet sites that
prevents pornography from being downloaded by students.
® Responsible for the establishment of our one and only
"Charter School" in Orange County.
® Being the first Hispanic to ever be elected to the Orange
County Board of Education, and for being a strong voice for
the community that is made up of hard working people who are
Hispanics, Southeast Asians, Blacks, and Whites, all of who
I have served for thepast eight years
