Walter T. "Walt" St. Clair- Candidate for Auditor- City of St. Bernard Biographical Summary and Qualifications for office: I want to present pertinent information about my community involvement, my educational qualifications, and my work experience; so that citizens of St. Bernard can make a more informed choice about the best candidate to serve them as their Auditor. I graduated from St. Clement Grade School and St. Francis Seminary High School. I received a liberal arts degree from Duns Scotus College in 1967 and an MBA in accounting from the University of Cincinnati in 1977. I served as a combat engineer in the U.S. army from 1969 to 1971. I have been actively involved in both the St. Clement community and the St. Bernard community for many years. i am a member of the St. Bernard Kiwanis Club and the Titan Boosters and soon to be in the Senior Citizens Club. I coached several girls' softball teams, ran a booth at the German Luau, and worked in various booths at the 4th of July celebration. Within the St. Clement community, I have been chairman of the lectors for over twenty years, chaired a festival booth for over ten years, served as chairman of the Parish Consulting Board for over five years, and just finished a three year commitment leading the Parish Finance Committee. I will soon be retiring from the U.S. Customs Serivce after serving in various capacities over a twenty-eight year career. in my federal career I have experienced the budgetary and funding aspects of governmental accounting as they pertained to certain operations. I have also worked with time and attendance records for various payroll accounts and types of leave. As a prospective federal retiree i would also hope to serve as a resource for the retirement benfits of all our citizens. For the past eleven years with Customs, I have worked as an auditor/ computer audit specialist. I have analyzed and reviewed the books and records of many international companies as well as the computer systems that maintain those records. I have tested their procedures and internal controls over their importing transactions ensuring the admissibility of goods and proper payments to the U.S. Treasury. With this experience, I have acquired a comprehensive knowledge of accounting and auditing terminology, the use of charts of accounts, financial reporting requirements, and the use of internal controls in multinational business operations. I want to bring my business experience and knowledge and my willingness to get involved to the Auditor position in the City of St. Bernard. My goal is to serve all the citizens of St. Bernard by listening to their concerns and needs and by exercising sound stewardship of both our financial resources and our excellent city departments and services. Additionally I would actively ancourage community involvement with St. Bernard's school, church and other organizational resources. Please invest in my goals with your vote on November 2nd.
