The City of Cincinnati is failing on its infrastructure commitmentsIn the 1997 report on the City's infrastructure (the most recent completed by the City Engineer0, it is noted that, despite in Infrastructure Commission of 1988, the City is failing on its infrastructure commitments. For example, in 1993, 65% of the lane miles on City streets were in good or excellent condition. In 1997, on ly 57% of the lane miles meet that crieria.(See attached graph) There are other examples. The City subjected all residents to the embarrassment of boarding up the Tyler-Davidson fountain, suggesting there was no money to fix it. That was untrue. On many other levels- city buildings, beatification, and sidewalks- City Council is neglecting basic needs. Meanwhile, Council seems to have ample money to increase their staffs, buy beauty shops, and support the creation of a school for over-weight kids. This campaign is about common sense. The citizens of Cincinnati deserve better on several levels. City Council muct improve its performance or the decline in the urban core will continue. The City needs a healthy dose of Common Sense.
