The questions were prepared by the League of Women Voters of Hamilton County and asked of all candidates for this office. Read the answers from all candidates. Questions & Answers1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?
Public transportation is in place. 2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.
It is my opinion that a much shorter period of campaigning is necessary. The amount of money needed to run for the simplest office cuts out a great many qualified candidates simply for lack of funds. An example which readily comes to mind are the many six figure fund raising events for national office costing the nation the time of its leaders and the funds of the communities visited are occurring as I write this; these funds are for the 2000 elections. Let's get back to a citizen legislature. Lets make it possible to have a citizen's legislature. 3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?
This is an ever-growing worry especially in Western Hamilton County where a self chosen few are continuing to disregard the voices of the people that they were elected to serve.
Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League, but formatted for Web display. Candidates were asked to limit their responses to 300 words for all 3 answers. Simple spelling or typographical errors were corrected after confirmation with the candidate. |
