All Education is Ultimately Vocational

By Allene G. Sieling

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Sequoia Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Almost all of us will use our education in someway in our life's work.
Whether we choose teaching, law, medicine, research, engineering, construction, cooking, advertising, sales, truck driving, electrical work, plumbing, or any other of a myriad of careers, we will need both the academic skills and the practical ones to succeed.

Electricians, plumbers, contractors, cooks, truck drivers, and sales people need strong math and writing skills. Doctors, lawyers, research scientists, and engineers need to know how to work with other people as individuals and in groups to accomplish their cures, win court cases, help students, or cure their patients.

The district has academies on all four campuses and we are working toward school to career connections. Very few individuals can succeed without having a full range of skills, practical as well as academic. In addition, the academic background will help every individual to be more aware of the value of the varied communities with the larger community.
