Political Philosophy for Tullio "Til" Bertini

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; San Mateo Community College District

I feel that it is important for people to volunteer their time in their communities. I have had a great deal of experience in education , and as a Trustee I can put my experience to work. I have campaigned on a local level several times and have not accepted political campaign contributions for the city council races, and two of my Community College races. I feel that in school elections it is wrong to accept large amounts of money because one who accepts money from individuals or groups has a debt to pay to the individuals or groups. Under those circumstances, one then looses the ability to deal with issues objectively, thus harming the people he represents and the students attending the schools. I feel that political campaign money is harmful to our democratic process. If elected, I will try my best to represent the entire county and try to provide leadership in our community colleges so that we will have a good educational program. I want to emphasize vocational education programs because many of our students are trying to develop skills so that they may enter the world of work. We have lost much of our local work force because we do not provide skilled workers to our businesses and industries. It is important to form partnerships with the Silicon Valley industries so that we can supply workers with specific skills.
