PROPOSED SOLUTIONS TO PERCEIVED PROBLEMS
- Traffic Congestion can only be solved by aggressive management. We need: a ridesharing program like GO GERONIMO, smaller electric jitneys for public transit, more bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, fewer teenage drivers, better stoplight timing etc.
- Marin Town & Country Club Redevelopment must be assisted by strong leadership that can meet the Friedman Family's financial needs and create enough income to rehabilitate and maintain the site. Unchanged zoning coupled with the mixed use community center/housing scenario makes more financial sense than the desired park.
- Fire Hazard Reduction can only be achieved by cooperation between the Ross Valley Fire Department and property owners, both public and private. Our firemen need a chipper; a top priority campaign promise.
- User Friendly Permit Process requires a booklet that explains all the rules of the Town of Fairfax. It has been done before.
- Inefficient Town Meetings can be fixed by a consensus of the Town Council to limit the length of speakers' time and to stick to the published schedule. Everyone can still have their say.
- Taxes and Labor Costs are the main jurisdiction of the Fairfax Town Council. It is essential that the new tax, Measure K, be passed. We cannot receive matching funds otherwise.
- Downtown Businesses/Parking Fairfax cannot survive as only resident serving, but one way to increase parking is to use Center Boulevard, coupled with bike lanes and sidewalks that lead to extra bike parking in downtown. Town government can help the businesses.
- Volunteer Opportunities abound throughout the Town government and School District. People must be informed and encouraged by aggressive outreach programs.
- Water Pollution can be eased by improved maintenance of septic systems, by not adding chemicals to the systems and using the natural boosters available at hardware stores. Non point source pollution is toxic byproducts of vehicles that drain into storm drains. Filters can be inserted under drainpipes near creeks and leaky cars can be phased out.
- Air Pollution is caused by combustion: vehicles, water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces, and power equipment all contribute and must become more efficient.
- Good Schools are measured by how much community support they get. Manor School has been painted and needs consumers for the Winter Craft Fair on November 20th. There are also committees there for interested volunteers.
- Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety cannot be the political football of negative extremists. It must be promoted and funded by government for our own safety and that of our children.
- Outside Agencies have some control over what happens in our town. This candidate has the endorsements of Supervisor John Kress and Steve Kinsey. This can help Fairfax when it comes to decisions made at the county level.
CHRIS LANG is open to new ideas and is willing to implement them. The advertisements in his mailer prove that he has the support of the business community, and remind us all to "Shop Fairfax First."
