Political Philosophy for Dan Winterrowd

Dan Winterrowd's political philosophy stems from his belief, so beautifully expressed by our founders in 1776, that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The Constitution, adopted in 1787, and rooted to our Declaration of Independence, is the foundation of our legal system. It is a power limiting document that chains the Federal government to its strictly limited powers. If it moves beyond those powers the Federal government is outside the law, and becomes an outlaw that threatens the sovereignty of the States, localities, and people.

Dan Winterrowd has entered the political arena to work to get the Federal government out of our pocketbooks and out of our lives. We often hear from incumbents and candidates about "new" agendas, and "new" visions. These, of course, are merely the same old, tired socialist type redistributive big government power grabs masked in "progressive" collectivist jargon. They may have many well-intentioned disciples but never forget the road to hell, and tyranny, is often paved with the best of intentions. What our country needs is the old fashioned wisdom of free markets, liberty, and private property. No country has ever spent itself into properity and the United States will be no exception. The former Soviet Union, present day socialist Russia, North Korea, China, and to a lesser extent England, Sweden, and Canada are proof that with more socialism comes more stagnation.

It is imperative for our nation's health that we free the people from the shackles of government forced taxation and spending. To tax someone merely to spend on another is wrong no matter how "progressive" the particular program may sound. It is stealing plain and simple.

As we look forward to the 21st century it is instuctive to first take stock and look back at the 20th century with its incredibly brutal regimes, bloody wars, and horrific genocides. It is no accident that without exception the bloodthirsty "leaders" of the 20th century came to power in a climate that condemned liberty, and private property in favor of redistributing income. When people resisted their rights being infringed and property being confiscated, they were crushed for the benefit of the "state."

Let us leave this 20th century and its brutality behind us by rediscovering the principles on which our country was founded: life, liberty, and private property free from taxation and seizure. These are the principles of the Republic that have served us so well in the past. These are the rights we receive, not from government, but from our Creator. These are the rights that allow us to pursue our own improvement. Let us make sure government does not abet those who would otherwise attempt to take these rights away, but instead protects and defends these rights. It is a matter of liberty or death.
