My aim is to be an effective judge, one who "strives to persuade and not pontificate"
and who "speaks in a moderate and restrained voice, engaging in a dialogue . . . , not
diatribe . . . ." I strive to create opinions "that both get it right, and keep it tight, without
undue digressions or decorations or distracting denunciations" of parties, lawyers or my
