The Harbor District can develop their properties without negatively impacting the environment.The San Mateo County Harbor District Master Plan states on page 5 "IT MUST BE EMPHASIZED THAT ANY DEVELOPMENT WILL REQUIRE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION THOUGHOUT THE PLANNING PROCESS" (emphasis theirs). Public planning process to determine needs of community for Median Strip and "Post Office" lot. Median strip ("Burnham Strip"), El Granada, 6.2 acres: onserve as open space for recreation only. No building. Consider a permanent scenic preservation easement. "Post Office lot", El Granada, 2.3 acres: mixed zoning commercial, open space). I would not be opposed to development of Post Office lot for commercial use which benefits the community, including a meeting room which could be available to the community when not in use by the District. Investigate feasibility of adding a second story to the existing buildings in the Pillar Point harbor commercial area. A second story in that area could be done without negatively impacting views or the landscape. Construct 71 additional berths. Romeo Pier: replace with new concrete pilings pier in the future. Retrofitting the existing wooden pier would only be a waste of taxpayer's money. Aquaculture: Ask for a complete Environmental Impact report before proceeding. The risks are not well enough understood at this time. Oyster Point: proceed with the present development of expansion of Marina Park Hotel and the Hilton. Oyster Point: Improve marketing to increase berth occupancy rate. |
