Traffic

By Colleen Jordan

Candidate for Council Member; City of Redwood City

This information is provided by the candidate
Problems and solutions.
Because it threatens our peace of mind, mobility, health, lifestyle, and economic bottom line, traffic congestion is the most pressing problem facing Redwood City.

While traffic is a regional problem, and therefore will not be completely alleviated without regional cooperation, there are some actions that Redwood City can take: Re-zone areas near public transportation and major office complexes for high-density housing options. Promote and lead efforts to develop more public transportation options, rather than engage in arguments about competing modes of transportation. Create a traffic commission made up of professionals and other experts who will work with City staff to study and recommend tactical traffic solutions such as better light timing on major thoroughfares, auxiliary lanes, and on-ramp metering lights.

Become a leader, rather than a passive participant, in groups which are focused on developing strategic traffic and housing solutions such as the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) and Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network.
