Sheriff

Dear Friends:

As a law enforcement officer for more than 25 years with the Sheriff's Office, including 8 years as 2nd in command, I stand for tough, smart and fair leadership.

I am writing to ask for your support of my candidacy for Sheriff in Santa Clara County. In the June primary I received the highest number of votes of the 5 candidates and I am leading in a current poll.

Once elected Sheriff, I pledge to implement programs to bring proactive enforcement, crime prevention and state-of-the-art technology to the Sheriff's Office, making Santa Clara County a model for the 21st Century.

€ Gangs and Youth Violence - Early identification of at-risk youth is essential, coupled with an innovative prevention and intervention program to redirect at-risk youth before they become immersed in a life of crime . The recent incidents of kids with guns are of grave concern!

€ Family Violence - In more than half of the domestic violence arrests there is no criminal prosecution. An on-call response from specialized investigators and medical professionals would ensure that offenders are held accountable.

€ Drug Dealing and Drug Abuse - Recent studies indicate that youth drug usage has doubled since 1992. This dangerous trend must be reversed now through expanded education, intervention and prevention programs.

I am proud to have received overwhelming support from law enforcement. I am endorsed by virtually every local and statewide organization representing all levels and ranks of law enforcement officers. When the Deputy Sheriffs' Association polled their membership for their endorsement in the Sheriffs' race, my opponent received a mere 16 votes!
