Mission College was never finished! Lack of funds stopped this college with no library, a serious shortage of classrooms, and no student center.I am committed to helping complete Mission College. The student population is increasing and projections show this school will be even more desperately needed in our area in a very short time. Since I have been on the Board, the Trustees have found the money to take on a number of very large building projects. Work is in progress right now for a Student Center/High Technology Building and should be finished in 1999. Next, we plan to start a Library/Learning Resource Center. Since I have been on the Board, a Physical Education Building has been completed. "Every long journey begins with a single step." The Trustees have worked very hard to lease 66 acres at Mission College to generate income. This is the first such project in all of California and we are now getting calls from other districts to find out how they can do this, too! It is expected that we will be generating about $3 million per year! This 14-year project has resulted in the opening of Mercado Center (a complex of 22 movie screens, restaurants, Micro Center, etc.) last summer. Two office buildings are now on-site and are occupied by tenants. The leases are long-term--75 years, for example. This effort is just beginning to bear fruit--and there is an option on the remaining parcel of land. I would like to be there to help the effort to increase this income stream. So, please vote for me and remember, that you can help, too. We negotiated with the developer so that every movie you watch and every meal you eat at the Mercado Center will add to the dollars for students! |
