Provide Effective Leadership, Especially in Academics

By J. Alex Pulido

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Carpinteria Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Results of the state testing program, STAR, indicate that our students are scoring below national averages in reading, and spelling and mediocre in other areas. Our building program does not make sense and is wasting taxpayer dollars.
Carpinteria's leadership in the area educational achievement and physical planning for housing our children is innefective. Our test scores are low and our schools are overcrowed with "band aide" measures being taken to correct the crowded condition of our schools.

The present leadership, including administration and board of education, should be held accountable for low achievement in academics, and poor planning for physical facilities in Carpinteria. Board members should be replaced and the administration should be held accountable for not providing effective leadership especially in the area of academics. We must demand effective leadership in all areas of education.

I plan to require a system of evaluation to include yearly goals and standards for improvement of educational achievement for all administrators. Retention and salary increases will be based on improvement of educational achievement.
