Political Philosophy for Douglas R "Doug" LeardCandidate for |
The citizens have excercised their right, under state law, to organize a district to provide firefighting and emergency services. They elect a Board of Directors to oversee the funds provided by the taxes they pay to be used to provide the services, equipment, and employees. I believe a Board member should see that the funds are used wisely. All spending should be thoroughly justified and a prudent reserve should be kept. A board member should know how the services are provided, how budgeting is done, and know the community served very well. I have such knowledge. A board member should also want to see that the Chief and the staff have proper goals and ethics for day to day service, and a vision for the future of the service in the District. A master plan is a must, and "crisis management" will not do! I will be active and insistent, as a board member, in attaining these goals and visions. I will not just attend meetings and vote, I will do research and committee work on my own time, as many hours as it takes! I believe in networking with, and lobbying with the other government agencies (such as Board of Supervisors, L.A.F.C.O., State Legislature) to provide the best funding and conditions for our District. Regional thinking is a must. We are affected by what our neighbors do- traffic is a good example. I will work with community groups to help the District give the best service, and have the District help community groups. |
