Ray Teagarden's Community Involvement Have lived in Jurupa for 45 years. Served four years in the US Navy, volunteering for two tours of duty in Korea during the Korean war. Owned and operated "Ray Teagardens Glen Avon Muffler" shop in Glen Avon for over 25 years. In 1974, started Crime Watch and Judge Watch organizations and served as President for over 20 years. Formed many Neighborhood Watch programs all over the Jurupa area. In 1977, Founder and Co-Chairman of the 1st Jurupa Community Rodeo, an annual event for the past 20 years, and continues to be an active Rodeo supporter. Received the American Legion Mira Loma Post 500 Law and Order Award in 1978 for outstanding achievement for efforts in fighting crime in Jurupa. Received award in recognition for outstanding achievement in the community presented by the Jurupa Chamber of Commerce in 1982. For over twenty years served as Lay Member of the Riverside County Bar Association, serving on the Fee Arbitration Committee. Past member of the West Riverside County Businessmen's Association for more than 10 years. Former active member of the local Jurupa Chamber of Commerce. An active anti-graffiti "paint bucket" campaign worker since 1975. Honorary member of the Glen Avon Volunteer Fire Department since 1978. With wife, Carolyn, raised $30,000 to purchase a new rescue truck for the Jurupa Community. Member of committee under Don Kurz, President, which worked on the first "General Zoning Plan" for the Jurupa area in the early 1970s. Chairman of committee to have street lights installed on Mission Boulevard in the early 1980s. Proud to own a Friends of the Library tile at the Glen Avon Library. Appointed by Supervisor John Tavaglione to the Solid Waste Management Board Advisory Council in 1996. Member of the Jurupa Valley Redevelopment Project Area Committee since its inception in 1996 until becoming a Board Member for the Jurupa Unified School District. Founding Director and four-term President of Gold Nugget Prospectors Club Inc., a non-profit California educational corporation. For many years held gold panning classes for 4th grade students studying California History at Mission Bell Elementary School, Rustic Lane Elementary School and Glen Avon Elementary School in Jurupa and other 4th grade classes in many schools outside of Riverside County. Conducts gold panning and California history classes for Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, including a class for the San Gorgonio Girl Scout Council Troop #47, Troop Leader Ms. Reene Battest. Honorary member of Jurupa Valley High School and Rubidoux High School Future Farmers of America. Also, member of both FFA Boosters Clubs. Made donations of cash and equipment totaling approximately $45,000 to FFA/AG Departments of both high schools. Made cash and/or equipment donations to Rubidoux High School Band, Jurupa Valley High School Girls' Softball Team, Jurupa Valley High School Band, Jurupa Valley High School Drama Department and Jurupa Valley High School Choir Department, Pedley Elementary School and Rubidoux High School Language Arts Department Journalism Class. Member of Jurupa District Lions Club. Recently installed as Second Vice President. Member of several Jurupa School PTA organizations. Some of the many Jurupa School Activities involved in: August 1997, appointed to fill vacancy as Board Member on the Jurupa Unified School Board. October 1997, helped Rubidoux High School FFA Boosters Club with Pumpkin Patch for one week prior to Halloween. December 1997, elected by fellow Board Members to serve as Clerk of the Board. January 1998, participated in the Presentation of Trophies and Certificates at the 21st Annual Spelling Bee. March 1998, honored by Jurupa Valley High School Instrumental Music Department for contributions and commitment to the department. March 1998, served as judge at the Twelfth Annual Jurupa Unified School District Science Fair held at Jurupa Valley High School. March 1998, served as "Principal for a Day" at Rustic Lane Elementary School. March 1998, participated in Rustic Lane Elementary School PTA's Community Read-In program. April 1998, participated in Book Share Hour at Mission Bell Elementary School. May 1998, honored by Jurupa Valley School FFA for cooperation and assistance and received Honorary FFA Chapter Degree. May 1998, honored by Rubidoux High School FFA for encouragement, cooperation and assistance given to the FFA and received Honorary FFA Chapter Degree. May 1998, helped celebrate Classified School Employees Week at Rubidoux High School. May 1998, served as judge in two Academic Olympics competitions. June 1998, honored by Jurupa Valley High School Theater Department in appreciation for devoted and invaluable services. June 1998, contributed to Jurupa Hispanic Association's Scholarship Fund. June 1998, accepted invitation to cook and serve at the Class of ‘98 Senior Breakfast at Rubidoux High School. June 1998, participated in Jurupa Valley High School Graduation and Mira Loma Middle School Promotion ceremonies. June 1998, completed course of Spanish I at Fontana Adult School, passing with a Grade of "A". 1997/98, participated in Rubidoux High School Delta Alliance Corps Scrip Program.
