Philosophy

I believe that Public Education must remain in the domain of the public. I strongly oppose any voucher plan that would take money from public schools. I believe in strong public sector employment and oppose privatization of public services. I support fiscal conservatism, getting as many dollars as possible into the classroom for direct services that will benefit students. My education philosophy is to provide a free and appropriate education for students of all ability levels, with a strong emphasis on traditional academic skills. We need to incorporate technology and job training skills into our curriculum. We must be mindful that programs such as athletics, music, art, drama serve to make our students well rounded and provide our students opportunities to make more positive choices. Seven of my eight children have been educated in SVUSD public schools, and it is my goal as trustee to insure that the level of academic excellence in this district continues to rise. As a trustee, I will work to insure that SVUSD remains one of California's top districts.
