Full Biography for R. Eugene "Gene" TollsCandidate for |
Gene Tolls, MD Gene Tolls has lived in Marin County for 24 years. Dr. Tolls has been practicing medicine for 44 years. He served as Chief of Staff at Marshall Hale Memorial Hospital in San Francisco for 4 years and was, until recently, Vice-Chair of the Pathology Department at California Pacific Medical Center. Dr. Tolls also served as President of the San Francisco Medical Society for 2 years and is a Clinical Associate Professor at UCSF School of Medicine. He has completed a program in Health Systems Management at Harvard Business School. In addition to his impressive array of medical credentials, Gene served his country in the Merchant Marine, participating in the landings at Okinawa. Dr. Tolls was inspired to run for the Marin Healthcare District Board because he was disgusted with the conduct of the current Board. In all his years as a doctor, he has never seen a situation where a decision is made to take hundreds of thousands of dollars AWAY from patient care and spend it on a lawsuit. He firmly believes that in the age of scarce resources for health care, every penny should be spent on improving medical care, not on lawyers. Marin General Hospital is a terrific hospital. Dr. Tolls has himself received life-saving treatment there and knows that the criticism it receives is irresponsible. Its emergency room is top notch and patients receive the best possible care. Dr. Tolls believes that time and money should not be wasted on petty, personal squabbles - the health of our community is too important. Gene Tolls wants to save the hospital from the current District Board and elect people who understand what it takes to run a hospital. Dr. Tolls' candidacy is supported by hundreds of other doctors, nurses and community members who support health care, not lawsuits. Gene Tolls, 74, lives in Larkspur with his wife Catey, who is an active member of the Junior League. He has 2 children and a granddaughter. |
