Arguments For Measure P |
In 1978 the residents of the Kentfield Fire Protection District, by an overwhelming majority, approved "Measure H" which allows the Fire District to assess a special tax not to exceed 6 cents per square foot of floor area as defined on the Marin County Assessor's roles for each improved parcel. This assessment has been used sparingly over the years and only in the last few years has the District had to assess the total 6 cents. This is due primarily to the shifting of property taxes from local government to the State of California.
In 1980, Proposition 4, a statewide initiative passed which limits the amount of revenues local government can collect without local voter approval. Although the residents of Kentfield have given their approval for the 6 cent special assessment, Measure P is necessary to continue the use of this assessment. Measure P will not increase taxes but gives the Kentfield Fire Protection District permission to continue its already approved special assessment in order to maintain its current level of fire protection and emergency medical service. s/ Frank A.
