Full Biography for Jon W. Johnston

Candidate for
Member of City Council; City of Shafter

My name is Jon Johnston and I am a candidate for the Shafter City Council.

I have lived in Shafter since 1942, with a few brief interruptions. My wife Antoinette (Toni) and I have two daughters, Rochelle Johnston Ceerla, who with her husband Raju, live in Woodland Hills, California, and Mande' Counts who lives in Shafter with her husband Thomas and two daughters, Vanessah and Chelsea.

I attended local schools, Richland Elementary School and Shafter High School.

I retired in l996 after 35 plus years with Safeway Stores Inc. and The Vons Companies. While employed by Safeway and Vons I served in several management positions, Relief Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Head Clerk.

I served as Shop Steward, Vice President and Trustee of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 1036, a local with 12,000 members and an annual budget of three million dollars.

I was Chairman of the Shafter Personnel Board in 1975 - 1976.

I regularly attend City Council Meetings. I also attended the City of Shafter, Strategic Planning Workshop in l998.

I will be accessible to all people, to listen to your concerns and create a more informed community.

Work with all groups and organizations to promote the City of Shafter.

Work with other council members to address your concerns and shape Shafters future.
