FREEDOMFreedom is not something that is earned, it is a right. We should all be free to live our lives as we choose, as long as we do not infringe upon the rights of others. If you are your neighbor's keeper, they in turn are yours.TAXATIONHow much is too much? We should explore other options to the current tax system. Abolish the IRS and either have a flat tax or a national sales tax. Cut government programs and revise the failing educational system. Look into privatizing social security through individual investment plans.DRUGS / CRIMEThe "War on Drugs" is not working. We need to try alternate methods for success. Incarcerating drug dealers only serves to overcrowd prisons and causes violent criminals to be released earlier. Jails are for violent crimes, not social "crimes". Being "tough" and "cracking down" has proven not to be effective. There is too much taxpayer money being wasted on extra police, DEA, special drug and gang task forces, and jailing of non-voilent inmates. Two of the most dangerous "drugs", alcohol and tobacco, are legal. When was the last time a gang member was caught doing a drive-by over a pack of Marlboro's? It should not be a crime to do drugs, just as it is not a crime to have a martini after work or smoke a half-pack of cigarettes. The crime is committed when you drive after too many of those martinis or when a violent crime is committed to obtain money to purchase drugs. Did you know alcoholism what as at all time high during prohibition? How many people were murdered over speak-easy profits and alcohol territories? Sound familiar?FIREARMSArtical II of the Bill of Right, better known as the 2nd Ammendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, reads as follows: "A well regulated Militia, being neceassary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The increasing amount of restrictive gun laws in this nation and our own beautiful state of California is very troubling and should be corrected. Criminals that use guns must be held accountable for their crimes; law abiding citizens should not have their rights stolen on the whim of vote-chasing politicians who have no regard for our Constitution. |
