Elected into office in November 1996 based upon citizen demand for accountability, I'm considered a newcomer in the political spectrum. It was my experience as a public advocate and researcher for many years prior to the election that developed my skills to represent the voice of the people. Previous employment includes volunteerism with Sonoma County Parks, youth and foster families, disadvantaged individuals, and a United Way fund allocation committee. I have also worked in habitat restoration implementing erosion control projects, tree planting, trail building, cleaning up urban creeks, and educating youth in environmental science. For a number of years I managed nurseries and landscape businesses, including my own, small landscape company. I am a Senior in Environmental Studies and Planning, emphasis in land use law and urban design. Activities at CSU Sonoma include leadership training, seminar facilitation, editor of the student newspaper and tenure on the CSU contracts committee for integrated technology.
