Some of the Duties of the County Controller

Gerry's responsibilities are to account for and safeguard every penny of the over $1 billion of taxpayers' money.

- Keep complete records of county financial transactions

- Audit county departments and agencies

- Process county payroll

- Pay the county's bills

- Allocate property tax dollars

- Prepare claims for federal and state funds due the county

As your Controller for nearly 12 years, I have streamlined this office, saving time and reducing costs. At the same time, I am proud that we have improved our efficiency. For example: In 1993, I recommended an alternate tax apportionment procedure that has generated to date, over $36 million in additional revenue to the county. This plan will continue to provide an additional $4 to $5 million each year. Every taxing agency in the county has endorsed the procedure.
