Jose Salcido, born and raised in Santa Clara County, is one of seven children. His father was born in El Paso, Texas and his mother was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. He and his brothers and sisters grew up in the north east side of San Jose and attended Berryessa Schools. Jose graduated from St. Joseph's Seminary in Cupertino in 1972. He has been married to Mary Jane for seventeen years and has two children, Declan and Conor.
Jose has worked for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department for over 21 years. As a sergeant, he has supervised and managed civilian and badge personnel in the Jails, the Classification Section, the Patrol Section and the Transit Patrol Section for over 13 years. During this time, he was designated employee of the month, served as an instructor at the Regional Police Academy (currently at Evergreen CC) and served as TAC Officer for 30 Sheriff's recruits during their Academy training.
As a participant in the California Police Olympics, Jose has won a Gold Medal in Soccer (1988), two Bronze Medals in soccer (1981 &1992) and two Bronze Medals in Arm Wrestling (1991 & 1992).
In late 1996, Jose participated and successfully completed the Sheriff's Leadership Development Program. He was elected by his peers in the program to be valedictorian of his class. In 1997, he was commended by the Sheriff for his contributions to the Task Force for Promotional Policies and Procedures. The Task Force established higher standards for the promotional process of Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains. Jose has publicly represented the Sheriff's Department on many occasions including a public forum presented by the Santa Clara Valley Water District regarding "Preparing for El Nino." He was also chosen to make presentations to visiting students from Toyokawa, Japan who participated in the Sister City Program with Cupertino. Education:
