- Elected to three terms and served over ten years as the City Clerk (Municipal Records Manager) and Chief Election Official for the City of Signal Hill.
- Served two terms as a Volunteer in Service to America (Federal Government VISTA Program).
- Received the 1980 Outstanding VISTA Volunteer Award for service rendered to eradicate poverty and improve the standard of living in Long Beach, CA.
