Sue Lempert Occupation: Consultant, Senior Issues Education and Qualifications: Personal: San Mateo homeowner for 40 years; Parent of three children, all graduates of San Mateo schools. Education: B.A., journalism, Stanford University, M.A., Public Administration, San Francisco State. Professional: Executive Director, Age Center Alliance; Journalist. San Mateo Community Involvement: Member, San Mateo City Council; San Mateo Union Highschool Board; San Mateo Elementary School Board. In my first term on the City Council, I took tough stands to improve San Mateo. I helped lead the successful fight to stop a cardroom casino, put restrictions on leafblower operations, encouraged neighborhood safety and beautification efforts, and advocated a cleaner, improved Bay Front. For the first time in many years, San Mateo is enjoying economic prosperity. Downtown is booming. Long vacant lots now contain Walgreens, Bridgepointe, and Draegers. We have streamlined city government to reduce costs but maintain quality services. We have enhanced public safety with added police officers, funded more youth programs, provided cleaner streets, extended library hours, and increased neighborhood involvement. The challenge is to maintain San Mateo's financial stability while protecting our quality of life. I have worked to be fiscally responsible, to be responsive to your concerns, and to make city government accessible. With your support, I want to make San Mateo an even better place in which to live. /s/ Sue Lempert
