Sandy Brown Eakins was born in Oklahoma, started public school in Eastern Washington and finished in Oregon. After college and graduate school, both in the Boston area, and after living in suburban Washington, DC, she and her husband, Gil Eakins, came to Palo Alto in 1972 with their three children, Robert, Daniel and Rebecca. They started the computer integration business which is now known as EOS (Eakins Open Systems) that year. As a member of the Palo Verde School community, she lead the efforts of the children and parents to finance, design and build their own playground. She has always taken an active part in neighborhood issues, especially traffic safety and planning. Later she was a founding member of the Palo Verde Neighborhood Association.
Her local volunteer activities have been mostly civic and political including the following selected list: worker and often chair of several City Council and School Board election campaigns; member Governance section of Futurecast committee; Chair, Public Art Commission; Co-chair, Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee; Member, Planning Commission; Member, Palo Alto City Council. Additionally, in 1996, she completed, with others, the book, an oral history, "Elizabeth Paschall: Pioneering Career Woman," which is published by the Regional Oral History Office of the University of California (Bancroft Library).
Sandy received her BA from Wellesley College, a MSSW from Boston University and a MBA from the University of Santa Clara. She is a member of Palo Alto Rotary, the League of Women Voters, Wellesley Friends of Art and Western Horticultural Society, as well as numerous museums. She is an active art collector and an enthusiastic amateur photographer.
