Matthew A. Joseph Age: 43 Occupation: Lawyer Education & Qualifications: My wife and I have two daughters in the San Mateo-Foster City public schools. As a parent with children in the district, I expect the Board to use common sense, make sound business decisions about limited resources and approach issues such as health and safety with urgency. If elected, I would use my skills as a lawyer to seek consensus and achieve these goals. This is a good school district, and can be better. I would (1) open up decision-making and improve communication with parents and the public, (2) focus on efficient and prompt use of $79M in new Measure E bond funds, and (3) give as much control and flexibility as possible to school sites to meet their unique needs. My experience with the San Mateo-Foster City School District includes: site council chair at Meadow Heights School, member of a committee on reopening Beresford School, member of the Board of Directors of the San Mateo-Foster City Community Education Foundation and co-founder of an afterschool performing arts program at Meadow Heights. I would ask four questions each time I make a School Board decision: does it help students, improve classroom conditions for teachers, make things easier for parents and serve the taxpaying public's interests. /s/ Matthew A.
