My political philosophy is based on the belief that everyone in this country should have the opportunity to succeed to the best of their capabilities and talents. This means that not only must barriers to success be removed but that people must be given the tools and skills to succeed. It is here that the community colleges play such an important role in a) transferring students to four year institutions, b) providing certification or A.A. degree programs leading to good paying jobs, c) helping students succeed in English as a second language, d) helping students achieve a college entry level performance e) helping move welfare recipients to work, and f) offering courses of general interest to the community so that people can continue a course of life long learning.
