Statement of JAY M. JACKMAN, Candidate for Governing Board Member Occupation: Incumbent/M.D., Psychiatrist Age: 58 Education and Qualifications: The community can take great pride in the major transformations that have taken place in the District during the past four years. During my term on the Board, we repaired the earlier financial disarray and established a solid financial situation, recruited and hired outstanding senior management (a Chancellor and a College President), and began a process to complete long-deferred maintenance and repair infrastructure. With limited dollars, a major task was to sensitively balance competing needs in the District. We continued fostering faculty development, the excellence of the District as a leader in use of computers, student transfers to four-year institutions, and the preparation and certification of students for the well-paying high-tech, bio-tech and health services jobs in our community. A vote for me is a vote for an experienced Board member with commitments to continued excellence and fiscal responsibility, and a deep appreciation of the goals of our outstanding students, faculty, staff and administration. For the future, we must integrate new technologies and communications into all aspects of our activities based on existing foundations, and continue to develop innovative programs. I want us to remain one of the preeminent community college districts in the nation.
