San Mateo, like many Peninsula cities, has a growing senior population. Our economics means that many of our residents are long-time residents entering their retirement years, or retirees moving to San Mateo. As a result, we must evaluate our city services to assure that we are providing the type of services that seniors require, and that we work with private enterprise to encourage new senior housing and new senior assisting living projects, especially in the downtown and transportation corridor.
