Traditionally, Redwood City has been one of the nicest places in the Bay Area. That is why our City was chosen as the County Seat. To keep Redwood City a great place to live, and to restore its image, we need to enforce the City's Codes and keep our City both clean and safe.
Unfortunately, not enough resources are currently being devoted to code enforcement. In fact, Jeff Ira recently relayed a personal experience that gave him first hand knowledge of just how bad the problem is. This is his story:
"Many years ago, I was cited for not having a self closing mechanism on my gate. Of course, I installed a new electronic gate that brought me up to code. However, five years passed and no one ever checked to see if I fixed the problem. In my case, there was no harm since I took corrective action right away. But what about the problems that are not fixed? Such problems can become unsightly eyesores or lead to hazardous situations. Right now, we need to emphasize code enforcement and devote more resources to this area."
Increased Code enforcement will not only make our City cleaner, but also safer. Thus, more people will want to shop and locate their businesses here. This new economic activity will lead to more jobs and an increase in tax revenues. Consequently, the City will have more revenues to provide more services to both our senior citizens and our children.
